Elles van Gelder is a Dutch journalist, based in South Africa and part of the program team of the GIJC17. She works as a foreign correspondent for newspapers, magazines, radio and television. 

Her work has been widely published by: Time Magazine, The Telegraph Magazine and The New York Times, to name a few. In 2012 she won first prize in the World Press Photo Multimedia Contest, the Picture of The Year International Multimedia Issue Reporting Award & the Lumix Multimedia Award for an investigative web documentary on an extreme-right camp in South Africa for white teenagers where they were taught to hate black South Africans.
